The Sacred Road contains
many stories of our Creator and our Savior that help us with our walk
today. Many of these stories teach us how to please the Creator. One
story is in 2Kings 4:8-37. Elisha was a Holy Man of God and Gehazi his
servant. Whenever they traveled to Shunem, they stayed with a woman who
was well known in her village. Elisha wanted to do something kind for
this woman in return for her hospitality. When he learned that she was
without child and her husband was old, he prophesied that she would have
a son in one year. She did.
One day many years later,
this woman’s son was brought home to her from the field where his father
was working. He was very ill and by noon that day, the son was dead.
The woman laid her son on the bed that she usually gave to the Holy Man
to sleep in when he was in town. She then told her husband she was
going to go see Elisha. She and a servant traveled as fast as she could
and when she got to the place, she threw herself at his feet and held on
tightly. Gehazi tried to pull her away but Elisha could see she was
distressed and told him to leave her alone. When she told him of her
son, Elisha ordered Gehazi to take his (Elisha’s) staff and run to the
boy as fast as he could and to not take time to even greet anyone on the
way. The Shunammite woman went too. Gehazi got to the boy first and
laid Elisha’s staff across the boy’s face. Nothing happened. He ran
back to Elisha and told him. Elisha then went to the boy himself and
prayed to Creator.
2
Kings 4:33-34 He then got into bed with the boy and covered him with his
body, mouth on mouth, eyes on eyes, hands on hands. As he stretched out
over him like that, the boy’s body became warm. (The Message)

Elisha got up and paced back
and forth and then stretched himself on the boy again. Soon the boy
opened his eyes—alive and healed. The Shunammite woman showed that she
had more faith in the Creator than she did in the death that she saw.
His Holy Man, Elisha, also demonstrated faith by not giving up when the
staff did not heal the boy and not giving up after the first prayer to
Creator. We know that this kind of faith pleased Creator and restored
her son.
Luke
18:1 Jesus told them a story showing that it was necessary for them to
pray consistently and never quit. (The Message).
The story was about a judge
who never gave Creator a thought and cared nothing for people. This
widow kept after him, asking for justice. The judge said he cared
nothing about what Creator thinks and nothing about what people think,
but because the widow wouldn’t stop badgering him, he would see that she
got justice so he could get peace. Jesus said
Luke
18:6-8 Do you hear what that judge, corrupt as he is, is saying? So
what makes you think God won’t step in and work justice for his chosen
people, who continue to cry out for help? Won’t he stick up for them?
I assure you, he will. He will not drag his feet. But how much of that
kind of persistent faith will the Son of Man find on the earth when he
returns? (The Message).
Do you have a dream, vision,
or promise from the Creator? Don’t give up. Plead your case to Him.
Remind Him of His promises. Don’t be afraid when things look grim.
Trust Him. He’s the final judge. Faith pleases Him. It’s impossible
to please God without faith. Even salvation requires faith.
John
3:16 This is how much God loved the world: He gave his Son, his one and
only Son. And this is why: so that no one need be destroyed; by
believing in him, anyone can have a whole and lasting life. (The
Message)
