Holy Highway, Sacred Road

The Sacred Road contains many stories of our Creator and our Savior that help us with our walk today. Many of these stories remind us of the “lost prayer”.

One story is in Exodus. Moses belonged to the tribe of Israel, the clan of Levi.  He was born into a tribe that had been made slaves by the King of Egypt.  The King did this because he feared them and wanted to keep them small in numbers so they wouldn’t be a threat.  The King issued a general order to his people to kill all the male children of the tribe of Israel.  This was the time and the circumstances that Moses was born into.

Moses’ mother was able to hide Moses for 3 months.  When she couldn’t hide him any longer, she made a basket-boat, put Moses in it, and set it afloat in the Nile River.  The King’s own daughter found the boat and her heart went out to the baby.  She adopted him as her own child and named him Moses (which means Pulled-Out).

Moses grew up in the King’s household without any fear for his life until one day when he was older.  He saw the slavery of his people and saw an Egyptian brutally kill one of his people.  Moses killed the Egyptian.  Now he could no longer stay with the King and live, so he fled for his life to another land.  While he was in this land, Creator called to him from a burning bush.  Creator had heard the prayers of the Israelites who were still being mistreated by the King.  He chose to use Moses as the one who would save his people.

At this point, Moses’ history became exactly that – a thing of the past. Moses was forever changed and forever changing in the presence of God the Creator.  He sought Him often to listen to what He had to say and to do whatever He asked.  He allowed God to send him back to the King.  He allowed God to change his life and he was used to save his people from slavery and to bring them into their own land.

The story shows us that the more Moses sat in the presence of God in his prayer time and the more he did whatever Creator told him to do, the more miracles God performed through Moses to save his people and the more He showed His power in Moses’ life.

It’s good to get together with other believers and pray for needs (jobs, health, loved ones).  Creator hears these prayers – just like he heard the prayers of the Israelites in slavery. But it’s also good to not get so caught up in the things of this world that we forget the ‘lost prayer’.  He is still looking for those who would come and just sit in His presence and listen for answers.  He is looking for those who would let their spirits hear what He has to say that He might answer our prayers or use us to answer the prayers of our relatives.

Jesus said it like this.   Matt 6:6 “Here’s what I want you to do: Find a quiet secluded place so you won’t be tempted to role-play before God.  Just be there as simply and honestly as you can manage.  The focus will shift from you to God and you will begin to sense His grace.” (The Message)

This is our inheritance in Christ: that we would become like him and do the things that He did for the people.

John 5:17 “I’m telling you straight.  The Son can’t independently do anything, only what He sees the Father doing.  What the Father does, the Son does.”  (The Message)

This is the way into our Promised Land.  We let God take us away from the things that we’ve set our hearts on and we go after the things that are in His heart.   We find those things when we pray the ‘lost prayer’.
